Journal History

Journal Timeline

1972 - The first issue of Media Message is published by the Canadian Education Media Council (CEMC).

1973 - CMEC is dissolved. Media Message is taken over as a joint publication of the Educational Media Association of Canada (EMAC) & Educational Television and Radio Association of Canada (ETRAC).

1974 - EMAC and ETRAC merge to become the Association for Media and Technology in Education in Canada (AMTEC).

1979 - Media Message becomes the Canadian Journal of Educational Communications (CJEC).

1986 - AMTEC related news is moved out of CJEC and AMTEC's "Media News" is created, with Cheryl Amundsen as its first editor. CJEC becomes a purely academic journal.

2002 - CJEC moves online to become a dual-medium journal. It is renamed the Canadian Journal of Learning and Technology (CJLT). Originally, full text articles only become available on the CJLT website after a one issue (4 month) delay from the time the print issue was distributed.

2007 - AMTEC merges with Candian Association of Distance Education (CADE) to become the Canadian Network for Innovation in Education (CNIE), the new publisher of CJLT.

2008 - The online and print issues of CJLT begin to be published concurrently, starting the transition to CJLT becoming a full open access journal. In April 2008, the decision to move CJLT to being a fully open access online journal is made by the CNIE board. The final print issue is published at the end of 2008.

2009 - CJLT becomes a fully open access online journal, and CNIE members are notified by email as new issues are published online.
